Let me dance on the edge of your awareness until you feel the truth of what you are...

Chestertown, MD

A friend and I took advantage of the great weather on Saturday to take a leisurely drive to Chestertown and further north along the DelMarVa Peninsula. We had a great lunch at the Fish Whistle, a restaurant on the waterfront. The food was good and service helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a great view of the Chester River and the town harbor, home to the schooner Sultana.

After a stroll on the dock and the promenade, we headed out to Betterton which was once a thriving beach resort. Once touted as the "Jewel of the Cheapeake", it now has a meagre population of only 376. It does have a beach with great views across the Bay. From there we headed to Chesapeake City, crossing the stately bridge across the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal which was built in 1839.

I am not here

I am not there

I am not anywhere

I see you now

You see me here

Can you feel smell of snow

As it lashes against the sky

And watch the fleeting sleet as it hammers down  below

To form an ice shell that covers all the around

Have you seen my shattered self that lies beneath the ground?

Have you felt my bitter pain when you gave up upon the greater pleasure as I lie here all alone?

Take my hand and lead me to the once green promised land

and I will

Take you by the hand

and show you where you fell

When Moses said he would

Part the path that led instead to a greater Promised Land?

Was it really so great, so wide, that newly parted path

Or did you see that, once you knew: he was talking shit instead?

There is no peace not change or fame when you tread the path of shame

Give instead your mighty self and see the Greater Self

And don’t think you have the answer

for the silence once so grand

Is only silence in your head

when your voice is asleep or dead

And your soul will fly the great Blue Sky and shine into the sun

for you think that your being

will live

on and on

but you know that you are wrong

 you are nothing

you are not here you are not anywhere

you are an imaginary something

in the mind of a Greater One

Visit to Sydney

My daughter and I visited Sydney a few months ago and had a fantastic time. Here are some pics I took of our trip. Our prime objective was to see a bit of the city and to visit some relatives. Sydney is a great place to vacation, I would encourage anyone who ever thought of traveling to make the effort!

Another must see for art lovers is the Museum of Contemporary Art . For more info click the link :  http://www.mca.com.au/

The Botanical Gardens were interesting although it was winter and not much was flowering. A large colony of the biggest bats I have ever seen hang upside down in the trees like black omens of doom. Quite fascinating!

Spier Estate/Landgoed, Stellenbosch

"The first van der Byl to arrive in the Cape was Gerrit van der Byl in 1668. Over the centuries, the van der Byls became powerful landowners by acquiring estates such as: Vredenberg, Klavervlei, Joostenberg, De Leeuwenhoek, WelmoedSpier, Fairfield (where the family still resides) and Groote Schuur (the current residence of the president of South Africa and the estate came into the family’s possession from Hester Anne Myburgh. It was later sold to Cecil John Rhodes)"  (Wikipedia)

The Spier Estate, nearly 350 years later, is still a stunningly beautiful place to visit. Now a commercial venture the winery and farm still exist as well as an hotel, outdoor restaurant, cheetah farm. The parklike setting invites the visitor to take a leisurely stroll around the gardens. A visit would not be complete without seeing the museum, the orginal farmhouse which has been restored and houses some fantstic art work.

Requiem

Requiem for Cynthia

A dozen painted ponies

Will gallop over your grave

I want you to lie down here, he said

Even when it rains

The lightning bolts will fool you

But the life will not return

Not green or verdant pasture

Can cool the ardent pain

As the loss succumbs to glory,

And glory turns to fame

Your name it will endure, he said

You will pass this way again

Your body won’t be the same, he said

And there will be no pain

So smear the dusty ashes

On the forehead of your faith

The church bells ringing out

To the believers scattered here

They have come in vain to mourn for you

They cannot see my dear,

That you are no longer here

Beautiful Fall day on the Eastern Shore..... I paid a visit to the Blackwater Refuge near Cambridge, habitat to thousands of geese, ducks, and other waterfowl...and in summer, mosquitoes!

I would  like to go back and get better shots of the birds some day soon. I arrived late in the afternoon, when the birds come back to roost in the marsh grasses. It was a symphony of competing squawks and honks as the geese would fly in and land with the kind of precision pilots strive for!

One of the most memorable sights I ever had of a flock of Canada geese was when I was living in Denver. It was around eight p.m. and I was alerted by the sound  at first, glanced up and saw nothing, then.... a few seconds later, an endless V formation flew by overhead, one of the largest flocks I have yet seen. It was spectacular, truly awesome. They were heading south, to wamer climes, and  the chilly Colorado air reverberated with their strident honking.

I tried to capture the reflections of the setting sun on the water...it was a really wonderful day!

Fall Evening Sky and Trees

I took these pics the other evening while I was driving to visit a friend. I wish I could have taken better shots, but I managed to capture these before the rapidly changing sky darkened to night.

These trees were quite luminous against the bright sunshine, I tried to capture the vibrant, warm colors against the blue blue sky:

Tonight the weather is changing for the worse, it has rained all day followed by a thick dark blanket of fog, and tomorrow it will be cold, with possible snow falling in the mountains out west. It will be Thanksgiving next week.
